Many join hands for Intl Women's Day

Imphal, March 08 2021: It was an impressive event where various communities came together under one roof to celebrate International Women's Day under the theme "Choose to Challenge" on Monday at at Chil Chil Auditorium Namdilong, Kanglatongbi.

The occasion was organized by Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi (Liangmai Women Union) Manipur.

Nepalese, Meiteis and Kukis, Nagas and other communities living in and around Kanglatongbi participated the event.

Renee Newmai, SDO, Tamei sub division and Meena Bista, Pradhan of Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat graced the occasion as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

On the occasion, LPNR felicitated Kentaliu Newmai for her "Guru" title under Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme for North East Zone Cultural Centre Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Priscilla Thiumai, president of Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi was lauded and appreciated for her leadership excellence in leading the women community at her best level.

Over 1,000 women and men participated on the occasion.

All the participating communities presented their cultural dances to show the unity and fraternity among themselves.

"The LPNR is striving at various levels and will consistently struggle to raise and uplift the women and girls facing all challenges coming on our ways," the organizer asserted.

Some of the main objectives, according to the organizer, on this Women's Day are: to highlight women's right and maintain gender balance globally; to ensure equal opportunity in political, economics and leadership of women because there are women who can do better, excel in every field; to urge the society to refrain from gender stereotype because this stereotype is man-made and the world has already changed; to appeal the Human Right Commissions, Women Commissions of States and Nation to hear hue and cry of girls and women for unfortunate reasons; to urge the State and Central Governments to increase the budget for women upliftment; to set up women professional and vocational training institutions so that girls from poor family will avail the opportunity free of cost; to stop assault, harassment and rape culture in the society; and to show respect to new born girl children, young girls, women and elderly woman.
