Career guidance & counselling programme held

The IQAC and Career Guidance & Counselling Cell of Western College today jointly organised a 1-day Career guidance & counselling programme at the college in Konthoujam.
It was attended by Oriental College, Chemistry Department, Head, M Lokendra Singh; Western College, Principal, Kh Debendro and Yaima Rongmei as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, M Lokendra stressed on the need to implement National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in all the colleges and added that career guidance & counselling is also an important part of the new policy.
He said that one of the recommendations of NEP 2020 is to develop a system of mentorship by experienced, distinguished and retired faculty.
"Faculty will have the capacity and training to be able to approach students not just as teachers, but also as mentors and guides.
A mentor's presence in a student's life can boost his confidence and guide him to be more successful in life", he added.
Kh Debendro asserted that the NEP 2020 also recommends an interaction programme between colleges to exchange knowledge and promote communal harmony among the students.
Felicitation of meritorious students of Western College who secured ranks in examinations conducted by Manipur University, recipient (teacher) of Golden Aim Award and a motivational speech by Dhanabir Laishram were the other highlights of the event.
