CoTU strongly opposes destruction of bunkers

Kangpokpi, July 05 2023: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has opposed the decision of N Biren Singh's unified command to destroy bunkers in the hill areas, reports our correspondent.

The CoTU said the bunkers which are meant for defending and protecting Kuki-Zo tribal villages from raids will not be allowed to be destroyed.

CoTU general secretary, Lamminlun Singsit said the Chief Minister instead of bringing peace has gone overboard.

He continued that it is the duty of a CM to bring peace and alleged N Biren Singh has done the exact opposite by raising militias to destroy the Kuki-Zo community which has had an age old camaraderie with the others.

"The fact that CM is trying to go overboard by destroying bunkers meant for protection of our villages from his militias will be faced with utmost resistance because the writ of Meeteis does not run in the hills", he asserted.

COTU also advised N Biren Singh not to interfere beyond his territory, but implement his decision to destroy bunkers where his militias are sheltered in order to cease violence.
