Saluting its leader, Pajiyaima Ibohanbi on the occasion of his 14th death anniversary, KCP (MC) today said that he can be counted amongst the martyrs who laid down his life fighting for the cause of the land and the people.
In a statement issued to the press today, Lanheiba Meitei, secretary military affairs of the outfit, said that Ibohanbi laid down his life fighting against the enemy who had teamed with some traitors in a fierce gun battle at Heitupokpi Chingya near Andro on July 1, 1995 .
Though seriously wounded, Ibohanbi ordered his men to leave him so that they can escape and carry on the struggle later, said the statement and added that he committed the ultimate sacrifice rather than falling into the hands of the enemy.
Today Ibohanbi is no longer alive, said the Lanheiba and added that his sacrifice lives on with his followers carrying on the struggle without any signs of giving up.
The outfit also extended its gratitude to all those who turned out to pay respect to the departed soul.
It also acknowledged the numerous panel discussions and debate competition held today to awaken the younger generation.
Stating that help was extended to many children and orphan homes in connection with the day, Lanheiba said that during his life time, Ibohanbi not only established an orphan home at Sekta but also set up a school till class IV in 1993 at Nagor village in Bhanugaj in Bangladesh where there is a sizeable Meitei population.
Ibohanbi firmly believed in the importance of education to carry forward the struggle, said the statement and added that today there are a numerous educated youths in Manipur.
The efforts put in by Ibohanbi have begun to bear fruits, but unfortunately, he is no longer amid us to witness this, said Lanheiba.
