Imphal, November 16 2010: Imphal West police commandos have rescued Manipur University, Engineering Cell SO Thongam Dolan at about 11 am today.

Dolan s/o Panchami of Khongman Mayai Leikai was abducted by suspected PREPAK cadres on November 11 in connection with a monetary demand.

In addition to successfully rescuing Dolan, Imphal West commandos also managed to nab two PREPAK cadres reportedly involved in the abduction of Dolan along with one 9 mm pistol and five live rounds.

The apprehended PREPAK cadres have been identified as Yumnam Amarjit alias Ibungo (37) s/o Ibohal of Arapti Chingol Leikai and Wahengbam Deban (30) s/o Khurai of Arapti Mayai Leikai.

Arrested duo and seized arm before media

Parading the two UG cadres before media persons at the conference hall of Imphal West District Police in the presence of Dolan's father Panchami today, SSP L Kailun said that on receiving information about abduction of SO Dolan by PREPAK cadres on November 11 in connection with a monetary demand of Rs 72 lakhs served to Manipur University, district police took up extra security measures at different strategic points.

In the meantime, specific information was received that the engineer was held captive in Arapti Chingkhong area.

Imphal West police immediately cordoned off some selected areas and launched search operations in the course of which two PREPAK cadres were arrested in addition to rescuing Dolan, Kailun said.

On preliminary interrogation, the two PREPAK cadres disclosed that Dolan was abducted at the instruction of S/S Lt Takhellambam Victor alias Thonglen.

It is also known that one NV scooter bearing registration number MN01Q-1394 was involved in the abduction of Dolan, informed the SSP while conveying gratitude to all the people who helped the police in executing the rescue operation successfully.
