Naga Lady Major's highest peak conquer story would inspire youngsters to challenge bigger things in their lives

Kohima, June 24 2012: The panelists in this week's DDK Live Discussion under its regular-"Trend of Nagaland"-have lauded the remarkable achievement of Maj (Dr) Neikhrietuonuo Linyu who conquered the highest peak of the world, the Mount Everest.

They panelists felt that Maj Linyu's extraordinary achievement would definitely inspire thousands of Naga youngsters to face bigger challenges in their lives.

The main panelist of today's DDK Live Discussion was Oken Jeet Sandham, Editor of NEPS News Service and Senior DDK Commentator Toto Nurumi.

They mainly focused on three main issues---Maj (Dr) Linyu's remarkable achievement in conquering highest peak in the world and as to whether it would motivate the Naga youngsters, issues of 33% reservation of seats for women in Municipal and Town Councils in the State and why the State is still lagging in the field of sports.

Replying to Nurumi's question that whether Maj (Dr) Linyu's extraordinary achievement would motivate Naga youngsters who were in the NCC and others who were in uniform services, Oken Jeet said Maj Linyu was perhaps groomed and shaped with that peculiar military character and with certain extraordinary commitment and discipline she would have it could achieve such unimaginable feat in her life.

"But such case happens in thousands or in millions," Oken Jeet pointed out.

"Everybody is not Maj Linyu.

Yet if you are disciplined and cultured with strong determination with one track mind, one can achieve anything in their life." Coming to 33% reservation of seats for women in Municipal and Town Councils in the in the State, NEPS News Service Editor did not buy the idea that Naga women were equal with their male counterparts.

He gave instances that in last 49 years of Nagaland Statehood, no woman could make it in State Assembly and this had clearly manifested that certain reservation was needed for them as far as decision making body in the State was concerned.

They also felt that the matter became more complicated when the State could not implement after it issue official order for 33% reservation of seats for women in Municipal and Town Councils in the State.

Then the matter was dragged in the court. With regard to the sports activities in the state, the panelist stated that there was a need to review the State's Sports Policy.

"We need to rope in experts in various sporting disciplines to frame proper policies," they explained and further added that the sports infrastructures in the State should be upgraded and trained coaches in various disciplines should be brought in.

"Only after that can we produce quality sportspersons in the state," they pointed out.

Coming to high profile Nagaland Premier Leak, the panelist pointed out that the present trend appeared to be organized without incorporating professional sportspersons.
