Committee rejects BRO's appeal

The monitoring committee specifically set up to monitor Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH 37) development work has categorically rejected the BRO's written appeal sent to the State Transport Director not to send any monitoring team at the moment.
An official source informed that the Chief Technical Officer of BRDB, New Delhi should be inspecting 83 RCC, 115 RCC and 765 RCC during August and September but the office was preoccupied and busy in preparing revised estimates and budget estimates for RCC and BRTF staff for 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 .
Moreover, auditing was done from August 6 to December 4 .
As the season of heavy rainfall extends up to the month of September, the staff are quite busy in clearing landslides and doing other maintenance work.

Citing all these reasons, the letter sent to the Transport Director appealed to send inspection team either in October or November.
A meeting of the monitoring committee held on August 28 deliberated on the BRO's appeal.
Observing that progress or lack of progress in the highway development work could not be assessed properly if there was no regular inspection, the meeting rejected the BRO's appeal to send inspection team in October or November.
It further decided to send an inspection team on the highway on September 14 and 15 .
In spite of the BRO's suggestion to the Chief Secretary to divert commercial vehicles plying on NH 37 to Imphal-Dimapur highway (NH 2), there is no arrangement as yet with the State Government to make any such diversion.
The BRO earlier wrote to the Chief Secretary to divert commercial vehicles from NH 37 to NH 2 for the time being explaining that they did not get enough time to repair /develop the highway as heavy vehicles were moving continuously on the dilapidated highway.
