Imphal, February 09, 2011: The building of a private school located at Phayeng Awang Leikai under Imphal West district has been gutted in a fire destroying properties worth around Rs 25 lakhs.

The fire broke out at the building of Oxford English Academy at around 9.30 pm yesterday.

Apart from all the 10 rooms of the school and the furniture inside them, two generators and a set of Aunpot consisting of wooden beds, almirahs, etc they were ordered for a marriage have been gutted beyond redemption in the fire.

Though there is no report of any human casualty, five pigs reared in the nearby area have been roasted in the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

One Angom Jadob is the founder secretary of the ill-fated school.

Exact loss in the fire is yet to be worked out.

But it is estimated that properties worth at least Rs 15 lakhs may have been consumed by the fire.

Timely arrival of the Fire Service personnel managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby area.

Meanwhile, a residential house at Wangkhei Angom Leikai have been burnt in a fire that broke out at around 5 pm today.

The fire is suspected to have been ignited by a faulty electric short circuit.

Fire Service personnel extinguished the fire before it could spread.
