Imphal, August 02:
The previously familiar gloomy scenario in Old Somtal village of Chandel district has been literally brightened at the initiative of 10 JAK Light Infantry under HQs IGAR (S) as six solar lamps have been installed at important locations such as school and the village market in the remote village.
According to a release, Old Somtal village with about 225 people and 32 houses had been enduring darkness as there is no power supply to the village thereby bringing to a grinding halt all activities after the sun sets.
To ameliorate from such pitiable conditions of the villagers to an extent, security forces (JAK LI) deployed in the area mooted the noble scheme which materialised with the installation of the solar lighting system, the release said while adding 'Old Somtal has now become another shinning example of progress that this once outcast and backward area is making, after induction of security forces in January this year'.
