Imphal, May 02 2024:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has warned that the people of Manipur may take a strong resolution against the Central forces if the Government of India doesn't stop its preferential treatment of the people.
In a statement, COCOMI said that personnel of Mahar Regiment apprehending 11 village volunteers along with arms and ammunition from Kumbi Akasoi in Bishnupur on April 30 only indicates that the Government of India doesn't take the situation in Manipur seriously.
The Central forces didn't do anything when a convoy of oil tankers was attacked along National Highway or when the bridge at Sapermeina was destroyed in an IED attack, COCOMI said.
Saying that the Central forces also watched silently when the DC Office and Secretariat at Churachandpur were torched, COCOMI added that enforcement of separate law in hill and valley districts is evident from the conduct of the Government and its security forces.
Saying that the people of Bishnupur launched a democratic protest over the arrest of village volunteers at Kumbi Akasoi as the top officials of Mahar Regiment didn't pay any attention to the demand to release the village volunteers along with the weapons which were used to defend them for the onslaught of the Kuki militants, the Committee added that the personnel of Mahar Regiment instead used excessive force against the protesters.
The COCOMI then urged the Centre and the State Government to stop targeting the village volunteers immediately.
These village volunteers who are at the forefront to protect Manipur and her people are not the enemy of the Central forces , COCOMI said and added that the village volunteers have also not attacked the Central forces even once.
The COCOMI claimed that the Government of India however has been turning a blind eye to the attack on Central forces by Chin Kuki narco terrorists at Moreh and other places.
Stating that four locals of Akasoi who went to collect firewood at Haotak were killed mercilessly on January 10, the COCOMI claimed that the personnel of Mahar Regiment didn't carry out any operation to nab the culprits of the Haotak killing.
The village volunteers wouldn't come out had the Centre and the State Government protected the civilians from the onslaught of the Chin Kuki narco terrorists, COCOMI continued.
The Central forces won't have taken strict action against the village volunteers if they take them as the citizens of India, the Committee said and added that the order to nab the village volunteers came from the higher authority and demanded replacement of the DGP and the Security Advisor with competent individuals.
