DESAM lauds role of media

Imphal, December 31 2020: The annual 'Meet the Media Fraternity' programme organised by Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur was organised today at its office at Kwakeithel.

Khogendro Khomdram, Editor of The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) and president of Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) said journalists despite facing numerous problems have always tried their best to keep the public informed in time and expressed gratitude to DESAM for recognising this hardship and appreciating the media personnel.

He added that despite getting minimal salary and in the face of numerous problems including life threatening events, the journalists continue their duty with the fullest dedication.

Khogendro Khomdram further urged the public and CSOs to extend their support in correcting any mistakes committed by journalists while discharging their duty and avoid any misunderstanding.

He also assured full cooperation in schemes and works of DESAM in the future.

Nameirakpam Edison, president of DESAM thanked the media personnel for their selfless dedication to keep the people informed of the important happenings.

He also talked about the plan of action of DESAM for 2021.He said DESAM will campaign for the appointment of regular VCs at State and Central Universities in the State and regular Principals of colleges.

N Edison also said the student body will work towards opening of new professional skill oriented courses like land resource engineering, metallurgical and energy engineering, architecture and city planning etc in the coming years and will also urge the relevant authority to start the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at the five colleges already selected by the Government from the session 2021-22 .

Khwairakpam Naoba, general secretary All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) said journalists are also wary of COVID-19 as much as everyone else, but they have to continue discharging their duty despite all odds as the call of duty outweighs the apprehension over the virus.

Notebooks and pens were distributed to media personnel as gifts at the programme.
