ILPS demand reaches Delhi, sit-in demonstration staged at Jantar Mantar
Genuine case, admits Shinde but assurance not given

New Delhi, November 25 2012:
Following a meeting with Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System in Manipur held a sit-in demonstration at New Delhi today.
Manipuri Students and youth backing the movement for implementation of ILP in the State took part in the protest demonstration.
The Home Minister has reportedly not given any assurance, though he accepted the matter is a "genuine case" .
Earlier the Home Ministry had made it clear that ILP system was not a State subject .
The State Assembly in August this year had adopted a resolution to extend and adopt the ILP system in the State, with necessary changes.
Keirao Assembly Constituency MLA Karam Thamarjit Singh who joined the sit-in demonstration told The Sangai Express that the matter is not for Manipur alone, but for the national security of India.

Given that the State of Manipur is surrounded by different countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, he underlined that several issues are associated with the demand for ILP.
The MLA further noted that there is a high risk of insurgents, terrorists making inroads into the State and Northeast at large.
Thamarjit also recalled the recent violence in Kokrajhar and other districts in Bodo areas of Assam.
He maintained that the unanimous resolution of the 60 members of the State Assembly is something that the Centre should take seriously.
The apprehension of the displacement from one's own land was also highlighted by the joint committee in its release.
The key demand of the committee include checking the rate of influx, protecting land, resources and monitoring political activities which may and can disturb the existing order.
The demands were made taking into consideration the cases in other North East States such as Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
