Konthoujam by-election TC claims dissension within Congress

Imphal, February 09, 2011: Extension of moral support from some sitting MLAs of the Congress party to the Trinamool Congress candidate in the Konthoujam by-election K Sarat, who is being supported by BJP and MPP, exposes the wide spread dissension within the Congress party, president of State unit Trinamool Congress Kim Gangte has asserted.

Addressing a public meeting organised in connection with election campaign of Trinamool Congress at Kangmong Meisnam Leikai today, Kim Gangte demanded to know in which part of the State, the Congress led Government has implemented developmental work in its true sense during its 9 - year long rule.

The upcoming by-election to Konthoujam Assembly Constituency is the first opportunity of the people to topple such a Government which has been taking the people on a ride, she said.

Kim Gangte further asserted that the earlier sitting MLA of Konthoujam Assembly Constituency had not only done nothing for the development of the Constituency but also deprived the people of their due welfare measures.

So, it is but natural for the people of the Constituency to resent.

If they really love Manipur and wished development in Konthoujam, there is no harm on the part of the Congress candidate to come out openly in support of Trinamool Congress, she added.

Describing party candidate K Sarat as the friend for the poor and needy, Kim Gangte appealed to the people of the Constituency and more particularly the women to ensure the election of K Sarat to the State Assembly so that he can take up their issues at the right forum and allow the flower, the party symbol to bloom.

Meanwhile, two Union Ministers of Trinamool Congress are scheduled to arrive at Imphal on January 11 to take part in the election campaign for party candidate K Sarat.

The two Union Ministers are Dinesh Trivedi, who is in charge of Health and Family Welfare and Mukul Roy, who is in charge of Shipping and Transport.

Mukul Roy is also the National general secretary of Trinamool Congress.

Election Observer of the party KD Singh is expected to accompany the two Union Ministers.

Upon their arrival at Tulihal airport, the Union Ministers would go directly to Konthoujam Assembly Constituency to interact with the voters in all the 28 polling stations.
