Thoubal/Imphal, November 07, 2013: At least one non-local labourer has been killed while six others sustained injuries when two powerful bombs exploded in quick succession inside a house, about 200 metres away from Pallel police station to the West at around 10.40 last night.

According to information culled from the spot, two powerful bombs exploded in quick succession inside the house of one Moirangthem Maimu (35) s/o M Nimai of Pallel Maning Leikai along Pallel-Chandel road.

Even though it is not yet clear how and who triggered the twin blasts, police have started due process of investigation after registering a case.

The two bombs exploded inside a room in the front portion of Maimu's house.

The impact of the blast made a big hole on the brick wall and articles kept inside the room were flung 20 feet away.

The deceased identified as Lalitkumar (30) of Muzaffarnagar, UP was working under Jiten Rabidas (25), the head mason engaged in construction of Maimu's house.

Jiten Rabidas too sustained injuries and other injured victims identified as Santosh Rabidas (20), Nirmal Rabidas (18), Nehawal (20), Anup Rabidas (19) and Dayalre (19) were all working under the head mason.

A team of bomb experts, and high-ranking police officers led by Thoubal SP inspected the blast site this morning.

Police recovered Rs 29,500 in cash from the room where the two bombs suspected to be IEDs exploded.

Taking strong exception to the twin bomb blast, members of Ching-Tam Nupi Apunba Lup, YVA Pallel and SDO Pallel staged a protest demonstration at Pallel Keithel today.

Condemning the bomb blast in the strongest term, the protesters asked all concerned to come up with satisfactory explanation through media at the earliest if any organisation/group was involved in the blasts.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has condemned in the strongest the twin bomb blast which claimed the live of a labourer and injured six others at Pallel last night.

The Deputy Chief Minister visited the injured victims at RIMS this afternoon.

Later speaking to reporters, Gaikhangam remarked that the bomb attack was an act of terrorism.

It's time for self-introspection for all the groups/individuals involved in triggering such bomb blasts.

Nowadays, UG groups cannot operate effectively in the valley area but they have been outsourcing their activities.

Such modus operandi creates more difficulty in police investigation, conceded the Deputy Chief Minister.

Although the Government has taken up adequate security measures, it is not enough.

It requires cooperation from civil organisations and the general public in tackling and averting all subversive activities.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who was accompanied by DGP MK Das assured possible assistance to the deceased and injured victims.
