Cabinet gives nod to admission procedure for PG courses at JNIMS

Imphal, April 02 2015 : With the Medical Council of India giving the nod to the State Government to open post graduate courses at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences for the 2015-2016 academic session, the Cabinet has decided to start the process of selecting students for admission to PG courses.

This decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat with the Chief Minister in the chair.

According to the Government spokesperson, CAF and PD Minister M Okendro, PG courses will be opened in four streams at JNIMS.

The courses are in Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Bio-Chemistry.

Two seats are available in each stream, said Okendro and added that the last date for completing the admission process is May 31 .

The admission will be conducted according to the guidelines laid down by the Medical Council of India as well as the Government of India.

According to the guidelines, 50 pc of the seats will be filled up from the Central pool while the remaining will be filled up from the State pool.

The entrance test for the admission will be conducted by the National Board of Education, New Delhi.

Of the total seats on offer for PG courses, 50 pc will be kept aside for Medical Officers.

There will also be reservations as per norms for ST, SC and OBC candidates.

Apart from this, the Cabinet also decided to extend financial assistance of Rs one lakh each to the families of the 13 persons killed in a bus accident at Jessami recently and Rs 30 thousand each to the injured persons.

JNIMs was set up on December 18, 2007 under the JNIMS Society of the State Government with the Chief Minister as the Chairman and the Health and Family Welfare Minister as the vice-chairman.

Incidentally, the institute had earlier approached MCI and the Government of India to open PG courses in eight departments (pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects) .

Accordingly MCI had given the permission to open PG courses in four departments in February this year.

The Cabinet also decided to give the go ahead signal to appoint 15 instructors/trainers for the Counter-Insurgency and Anti-Terrorist School (CIAT) at Jiribam, said Okendro.

The instructors/trainers have been selected from among former ex-servicemen who had earlier served in the State and Central security forces.

The selected instructors/trainers will first impart commando training to State police personnel for nine weeks, said Okendro and added that 19 such trainers were selected by a committee of selection officers.

The 19 trainers were later trimmed down to 15, he added.
