The pandemic caused by COVID-19 continues to take a heavy toll with the virus killing eight persons during the last 24 hours while the number of positive cases has crossed 25,000 .
Taking into account the latest victims, the virus has killed 281 people in the State.
Meanwhile, Chief N Biren informed that he tested negative for COVID-19 today.
The Chief Minister tested positive for the virus on November 15 .
It is said that N Biren would lay the foundation stone for construction of a new Irang Bridge on December 2 .
In the last 24 hours, eight persons aged 71 (male, Imphal East), 80 (male, Imphal West), 54 (male, Imphal West), 76 (female, Imphal East), 62 (male, Imphal West), 90 (male, Imphal East), 71 (male, Imphal West) and 70 (male, Bishnupur) expired at Raj Medicity, Shija Hospital, JNIMS and RIMS.
A press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang informed that 135 people were tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours at JNIMS, RIMS, Imphal East, Imphal West, Maipakpi Hospital, CMC, Advance Hospital, Acme Hospital, Shija Hospital, Hillside Hospital, Raj Medicity, RD Wing, Sielmat, Lamjingba Hospital, Escent Diagnostics, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Babina Diagnostics.
They belong to Imphal West (44), Imphal East (45), Thoubal (12), Bishnupur (9), Kakching (14), Tamenglong (4), Ukhrul (1), Churachandpur (4), Jiribam (1) and Chandel (1) .
All of them are locals who do not have any travel history.
On the other hand, 165 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from home isolation (98), RIMS (12), JNIMS (3), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (4), CCC UNACCO (10), Raj Medicity (2), RD Wing (13), Kakching (1), Ukhrul (1), Chandel (1), Phungyar (4), Bal Bhavan (11), Thoubal (2), Bishnupur (2) and Kangpokpi (1) .
The cumulative number of positive cases is 25,045 (general population 21,963 and Central security personnel 3,082) .
It includes 3,198 active cases (general population 2900 and Central security personnel 298) and 21,566 discharged cases (general population 18,786 and Central security personnel 2,780) .
The recovery rate stands at 86.10 per cent.
The Additional Director (Health) further informed that serosurveillance study on COVID-19 prevalence has started in Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kakching and Ukhrul.
Of the people who tested positive in Imphal West district today, 18 are residents of Heikrujam.
