Imphal, July 05 2023:
Maintaining that the Central government could easily contain the violence, former minister L Jayanta-kumar has expressed suspicion of hidden agenda behind the violence continuing unabated in the state.
The former minister cast aspersions on the centre's commitment to resolve the crisis during an interaction with the media on the sidelines of a voluntary blood donation camp organised under his supervision at JNIMS Blood Bank on Wednesday under the theme "Kanglei Pathoushin-gidamak Katthoklaba Ee" .
Decrying the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue, Jayan-takumar expressed suspicion of a political agenda behind the crisis.
Despite boasting of being one of the global superpowers and assurance made by union home minister Amit Shah, the Central government has not been doing much to contain the violence.
This is a classic example of step-motherly treatment meted out to the northeast, especially Manipur by the Centre, he said while questioning the status of Mani-puris in the country.
With reference to recent infrastructure development works taken up in Manipur under the Central government's Act East Policy, the ex-minister asked if the Centre is planning to make the people of the state victims in its strategy to neutralise China's clout in the region.
Even though ministers, MLAs and delegations of different CSOs are visiting Delhi to meet central leaders and submit memorandums seeking intervention from the Centre, the ground situation underscores lack of effective means to instil sense of security among the people, he alleged, while adding that despite deployment of around 70,000 central security forces, there is no sign of ending the violence.
The huge security deployment has even failed to open the National Highway 2, which is the main lifeline of the state.
Due to these factors, people of the state have lost faith to the governments in both Centre and state, he contended.
Regarding the blood donation camp, Jayantakumar said that it was a humble gesture to assist those injured in the fight for protecting the state's territory and identity and respect to the brave hearts.
