Imphal, October 16 2023:
Maintaining that chief minister N Biren is not only for the Meiteis but is the chief minister of the entire state of Manipur, social activist Sapamcha Kangleipal has stated that the unrest situation can be contained and peace restored only when the chief minister is given control of the unified command.
Speaking on the sidelines of black badge distribution function held at Success School, Tejpur Chingarel organised as part of the agitation launched by Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) demanding handing over of bodies of the two students to their respective family members and bringing out the truth behind the killing of the students in the captivity of armed Kuki militants, Kangleipal raised objection against decision of union government to relinquish the charge of unified command from the chief minster on the ground that 10 Kuki MLAs out of the total of 60 MLAs have withdrawn support to the chief minis ter.
It is our duty to press the union government for reinstating the chief minister as head of the unified command.
He also expressed that the public confronting state's security forces in the Imphal valley as and when armed Kuki militants attack Meiteis along the foothills will serve no purpose as there is no point for infighting (between the indigenes) but understand and identify the real enemy.
SSUM president S Yaima, who was also present at the event, stated that the students while agitating for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur and for ensuring education to students during this time of crisis, should not take up anything which could harm the.
academic atmosphere as a society in the absence of education can never develop.
He further informed that the agitation of unfurling black flags and wearing of black badges will continue in all educational institutions across the state until the bodies of the two students killed by Kuki militants are recovered and the truth behind their killing placed in public domain.
