Arrest culprits or face intense stir: JAC to Govt

As the state government has failed to arrest the culprits involved in the brutal murder of students namely Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi by armed kuki militants and hand over the bodies to the family members within the deadline set, the JAC against the Brutal Killing of Two Students - Phijam Hemanjit and Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam has declared that it is all set to launch intense form of agitations.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, JAC convenor L Kanta said that the following the photos of two missing students, before and after death, going viral on social media, the JAC had served an ultimatum to the government to arrest the culprits within 48 hours and cautioning of intense forms of agitation in case of failure to do so.
Since the deadline has lapsed without the government honouring the demands, the JAC has no other option but to launch massive agitation, the convenor said.
He further informed that as attitude and conduct of the state government is beyond tolerable limit, the JAC has decided to launch intense agitation with support of public, CSOs, meira paibi groups and student bodies, and also appealed to the public to extend cooperation in the agitations.
Joining the media briefing, JAC co-convenor Ng Bimola said that though it may take some time to punish the culprits as the chief minister informed that the case is being handled by the CBI and investigation is on, bodies of the two students should be retrieved so as to enable the bereaved family members perform their last rites considering the trauma and suffering of parents of the deceased students.
She also expressed disappointment over the discriminatory attitude shown by the state and central government towards the Meitei community and mentioned that the government reacted immediately when the naked parading of two women went viral on social media and even provided compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh each to the victims.
However, the government is remaining silent when two Meitei students have been killed by armed Kuki militants, she denounced.
