Imphal, September 29 2023:
Chief minister N Biren has extended wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Irabot Day.
In his message, Biren recounted that Hijam Irabot was a multi-faceted and versatile humanistic revolutionary who stood against foreign and autocratic rule during the country's freedom movement.
He was a freedom fighter, politician and social activist par excellence, a versatile personality, gifted poet and an accomplished scholar.
His contribution in the field of literature and sports and social upliftment of the downtrodden continue to impact our lives to this day.
For his pioneering role in all the fields during his time, he was called the first modern architect of Manipur, he mentioned.
"Hijam Irabot introduced the idea of emotional integration between the hills and the plains.
No word is enough to describe his contributions made to the society.
His efforts towards maintaining oneness and emotional integrity among people of different communities are still fondly remembered, and people lovingly called him Lamyanba Irabot.
His contributions to the society and greatness as a true leader are being recognised increasingly after his death.
"Our State is passing through a tumultuous phase today with various interests working to destroy the State s age-old fabric of unity and diversity.
It is because of this, that, Hijam Irabot s teachings are relevant for our State today, more than ever," he said, while adding that in celebrating his 125th Birth Anniversary, we must pledge to rise beyond narrow considerations of petty politics and affiliation of tribe and caste to defeat the challenges posed by division and separatist forces.
"Let us stand united today for a stronger Manipur for our tomorrow," the CM said.
