"No evidence of SF involvement in Moreh fire"

Imphal, January 30 2024:
An enquiry is in process to check veracity of the allegations as published in "The Print" on January 21 regarding arson of some houses in Moreh town on January 17, according to a statement issued by Manipur Police Common Control Room, which also said that there is no evidence of involvement of security forces in the incident, so far.
The statement informed that a case has been registered to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Till now there is no evidence to suggest that the arson was carried out by any of the security forces.
There were armed miscreants present in the areas including where the arson took place and security forces engaged with them.
The unfortunate fire incident of January 17 was doused with the help of fire services department, security forces and local people of the area.
Mention may be made that some houses were burned during a coordinated attack on Manipur police commandos in the border town Moreh by Kuki militants using high calibre firearms and war munitions including incendiary devices on January 17 .
Fire tenders from Myanmar were involved in dousing off the fire, which led to the government ordering an enquiry.
The Print, published a report under the title "Burnt houses, schools - Manipur commandos 'led arson spree' in Moreh, Myanmar fire dept 'came to rescue'" on January 21 .
