Ukhrul, December 06 2023: Condemning the thrashing of three Tangkhul youths at Sawombung on the night of December 3, Tangkhul social organizations viz Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) and the locals of Tushen Village have served a 48 hour ultimatum to the Government to arrest and penalise the goons.

A joint meeting of TNWL, TSL, TKS and TMNL was held at TNWL office at Wino Bazar today regarding the attack on civilians along Imphal-UKhrul road.

During the meeting, the participants condemned in strongest terms the brutal attack on the innocent civilians along the highway stretch by armed miscreants.

They served a 48 hour ultimatum to the Government to book the persons involved in the incident, ensure the safety of the commuters/ travellers along Imphal-Ukhrul road and compensate the victims appropriately.

The Tangkhul CSOs cautioned that they will view the attack as a wilful act done after colluding with the Government and respond to it appropriately if their demands are not entertained.

The incident happened when the three Tangkhul youths were returning to Ukhrul from Imphal in a Mahindra Scorpio.

It is said that they (the Tangkhul youths) were stopped at Sawombung by a group of womenfolk at around 9 pm of December 3 to check their identity.

The occupants, reportedly, were whisked away by some armed miscreants in a white Gypsy shortly after they identified themselves as residents of Ukhrul and beat them (the Tangkhul youths) black and blue.

They were released only after one Tangkhul lady intervened and confirmed their identity.

Subsequently, they have lodged a complaint to Ukhrul police station.
