PYDC Yairipok clarifies

Clarifying that there has been no largescale felling of trees at Gwarok Reserved Forest, Pechi Youth Development Club, Yairipok has demanded an explanation regarding a news item allegedly carried in some daily newspapers today claiming otherwise.
In a statement, Pechi Youth Development Club has said that the news item reporting large number of trees being felled at Gwarok Reserved Forest by wealthy individuals in the midst of the conflict is "baseless and unfounded" and demaded a clarification from the concerned party.
The press release which bore signatures of W Ibomcha, president and Devigoura Pechimayum, secretary, PYDC Yairipok further said that a few days ago 18 trees were uprooted at Gwarok Reserved Forest due to a huge storm.
Local clubs, meira paibis etc had informed the DFO and Forest Beat Officer about this matter.
Following this, the trees were brought down from the forest and decided to be put to use in a way that would benefit those who have been affected by the conflcit, it added.
Thus, villagers of Pechi have expressed dismay at the proliferation of this allegedly unfounded news.
Stating that the village folks, which consists of roughly 150 households, have zealously guarded the Gwarok Reserved Forest, the statement also pointed out that in the past, they had resolved to plant more tree saplings in the forest.
