Imphal to host national camp of canoeing & Kayaking

For the first time in North Eastern states, Manipur will host a national coaching camp of Canoeing and Kayaking at the Water Sports Complex, Takmu in May this year.
This was disclosed by, Jtin Waikhom, President of All Manipur Canoeing and Kayaking Association during the felicitation function of peddlers, who participated and won medals in the recently concluded 23rd National Canoe Sprint Championships, held at his residence.
Speaking on the occasion, Jotin said that more than 300 peddlers of 12 to 14 years of age from different states of India will be participating in the national coaching camp.
AMCKA will engage foreign coach for the coaching camp which will continue for one month and the association will sponsor top 40 peddlers from the coaching camp for their study and water sports training at Bhopal.
The association would develop a canal at the foothill of Nongmaijing with an aim to produce good peddlers.
He further said that India is planning to establish two training centres of water sports and Manipur is putting its best efforts in bringing a centre in Imphal.
Besides, Manipur would also host an International Canoeing and Kayaking Championships in Imphal in 2015-16, Jotin said.
Works Minister, Kh Ratankumar who graced the function as Chief Guest appealed to the sports associations to refrain from duality and unite as a single body for the sake of the players.
Parliamentary Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports, M Prithviraj said that a committee headed by Chief Minister O Ibobi as Chairman was formed to improve Sports and Youth Policy of the state.
The committee will hold meeting and discuss possibilities to develop sports and youths activities in the state after the financial year.
