Imphal, March 09 2013 :
A Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged thrashing of a minor girl domestic helper in an Ukhrul district area has demanded that police take suitable action against the accused person(s) failing which intense agitation would be launched.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, JAC Against the Life Attempt of a Girl Child convenor AC Thotso accused family members of one Jim Horam s/o Antibas Horam of Kachai village of severely thrashing a nine-year old domestic helper on February 3, 2013 .
According to the convenor the minor girl suffered fractures of the chest bone and left arm besides severe injuries in the leg and buttock areas.
The Horam family is said to have accused the domestic helper of stealing gold ornaments and mobile phone handsets.
Informing that Jim Horam is being detained in jail in connection with the case, Thotso strongly opposed anticipatory bail granted to Jim's mother Edah Horam with the assertion that both Jim and Edah deserved punishment for their inhumane act against the girl child.
Further maintaining that the Horam patriarch has also secured bail after a brief detention, the convenor insisted that the accused members of the Horam family be charge-sheeted at the earliest failing which the JAC would resort to agitation.
Appreciating Ukhrul DC for enquiring about the condition of the victim girl, Thotso desired that the local representative initiate relevant action against the accused persons.
