Peace Cup at Kpi ends peacefully, Kholjang YC lift champions trophy

The weeklong Peace Cup, 2018, jointly organized by the Jwalamukhi Battalion under the aegis 59 Mtn Brigade and Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU) ended peacefully here today at M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi DHQs.
The Peace Cup, which was a joint venture between Jwalamukhi Battalion and the Kangpokpi Youth Union aimed to do away with the panic and unrest situation at Kangpokpi after the recent twin blasts that rock the town and to bring back normalcy and a blankets of peace in the town.
It also aimed to build a synergy between the Armed Forces and the youth emphasizing on the importance of sports and development.
The Assam Rifles are also for the citizens and stand for peace was the core message of the tournament.
The Peace Cup also emphasize on bringing back the youths who indulges in various anti-social elements, into the mainstream and it was also a scouting of talents for future recruitment in Army and Assam Rifles through sports.
Interestingly, some players have been identified during the weeklong tournament and their names will be forwarded to higher headquarters for further action for recruitment in the Assam Rifles through sports quota.
Around 16 football teams across Kangpokpi District participated in the tournament while Kholjang Youth Club and Maohing Youth Club met each other in the final match held today in the presence of Brig Dipankar Saha, 59 Mtn Brigade Commander as chief guest apart from Col VM Naithani, CO, 38 AR; IAS Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi; IPS Hemant Pandey, SP Kangpokpi; Seikhomang Khongsai, President, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District, Tongmang Haokip, Retd.IRS; Addl SP Kangpokpi and various other CSO leaders.
The calm but passionate final match between Kholjang Youth Club and Maohing Youth Club ended in favour of Kholjang YC as they dominated the game right after the first minutes of the game with its promising striker Nehkhosong@Songpu Singsit strike home with a volley.
However, Kaikam of Maohing YC found the equalizer in the 40th minute before half time but Kholjang Youth Club substitute Lamminlun Kipgen headed home the winning goal in 45th minute to seal the champions trophy.
The Champions team received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with Trophy, certificates and medals while the runners up received a cash prize of Rs 10, 000 along with Trophy, Certificates and Medals.
Kaikhokam Kipgen of Maohing Youth Club with 8 goals bagged the top scorer award of the tournament and Ojit Singh of LKSU Loitang bagged the Best Goalkeeper title while Thangkivet of Kholjang Youth Club emerged Best Defender.
The individual prize winners were awarded with Rs 3,000 each.
