Imphal, April 10 2012:
The Khuman Lampak Sports Complex which has been like a sacred place for the players of the state has now become more of a godown with various vehicles parking inside the complex.
The present state of the complex is due to the parking of oil tankers, storing water pipes, opening ADC offices, frequent entering of unrelated vehicles and outsiders and installation of IRB post.
The complex is playing a major role in developing Manipur as a power house of sports in the whole country.
However, the government is not paying any attention over the increasing infiltration by public for purposes which are not related with sports.
Moreover, the staying of drivers and handymen inside the complex has made it more messy with wastes littering here and there.
Most of the entrances and roads inside the complex are also in deplorable condition with muds causing many inconveniences to the sportspersons.
Denouncing the increasing infiltrations inside the complex, Youth Affairs and Sports Employees' Association, Regular Coaching Coaches Welfare Association, players of RCC and SAI inmates have submitted numerous memorandums to vacate the infiltration of the complex by private vehicles and government offices.
However, all the requests went into vain with the government paying no attention on the matter.
Even shocking is the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports which is not doing anything to conserve the sanctity of the complex even though it is in a very pitiable situation.
Sports complexes in other states are reserved only for sportspersons and players.
However in the state, the complex is lying unattended for a long time as if it has no owner at all.
It may be mentioned that the ADC office here has been a target for some UG groups who exploded bombs near the office.
In such situations, players do not feel the sense of security while travelling near the office.
It is time for the government to conserve the sanctity of the complex to save the future of the players of the state.
