BSF organises Martyrs' Day half marathon

Imphal, October 22 2017:
Ksh Herojit of Ereima English Academy; Md Chengiz Khan of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai Govt HS and Y Arjit Meetei of Laishram Shyam High School respectively won the first, second and third positions of the BSF Martyrs’ Day Half Marathon 2017 today .
Braving the rains, about 300 students in the age group of 11-16 took part in the half-marathon run organised by 49 Bn and 54 Bn BSF under the auspices of BSF Sector Headquarters (CI Ops), Manipur and Nagaland Sector with the theme ‘Run for Martyrs.’
The run began from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and culminated at BSF Sector Headquarters, Koirengei via Kekrupat, North AOC point, Chingmeirong, Mantripukhri .
Ksh Herojit made the podium finish in 34:55 second to emerge the winner.
Md Chengiz Khan and Y Arjit Meetei came close second and third at 36:43 second and 36:44 second respectively .
Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar; DIG, BSF (Manipur and Nagaland Sector) Angom Shamoo; Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip and Additional Chief Conservator of Forest Dr Lokho Puni Mao attended the prizes distribution ceremony as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively .
Addressing the runners at Koirengei, Angoo Shamoo said the half-marathon has been organised for the second time this year.
The event was a success despite incessant rain since couple of days back .
The DIG said 3rd and 4th Manipur Rifles were merged with the 95th and 96th Bn BSF and they have been deployed to counter Naga militants.
Likewise, Nagaland’s State forces were also merged with the BSF battalions .
He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for making the half-marathon a success .
The half marathon was held as a part of the BSF’s countrywide initiative to commemorate the valiant deeds, and supreme sacrifices made by its personnel in the service of the nation.
