Cultural festivals can foster ties amongst different communities : Biswajit

Emphasising on the need to maintain peaceful co-existence amongst the different communities so as to sustain development in the State, Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh asserted that mass participation of people in various cultural festivals would foster integrity and unity in the State .
He was addressing the 24th Eikhoigi Iche-Ichalsingbu Ningshingba Numit "Ningol Chak-Kouba" at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound yesterday .
The function was organised by All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) along with the Naath Kanba Lup, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and All Manipur Arts and Culture Students' Union .
Speaking as chief guest, Biswajit stated that Ningol Chakkouba is a perfect occasion to bolster the relationship between the different communities .

Ningol Chakkouba, the biggest festival is also an occasion where married women and their family members share a feast together and bless each other, he added .
He also stated that Ningol Chakkouba is an important festival for Manipur where different communities reside together .
Maintaining that development is possible only when there is peace in the land, the Minister urged the people belonging to different communities to stay united and promote peace and development in the State .
We can find peace only when we understand and respect each other, he added .
The Minister greeted the women folk from more than 20 different communities attending the function and wished them joy and happiness .
Presiding overt he function, AMESCO president BK Moirangcha stated that the organisation has been celebrating Ningol Chakkouba festival every tear since 1993 with the firm objective of promoting peace and unity in the State .
The celebration function was also attended by Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Minister Karam Shyam as special guest of honour; president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur, Memchoubi; advisor, Kuki Women Union, Manipur, Rose Mangshi; president of All Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation, Sarita Begum; member of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW); chief functionary of People's Welfare Society, Anuradha (Ranibala Devi) and vice-president, Kabui Mothers Association, Atongpi Kamei as guests of honour.
