The 34th National Armwrestling Championship organised by Manipur Armwrestling Association has commenced from today at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh inaugurating the four-day event as the chief guest.
Out of 350 armwrestlers from 16 States vying for top honours, host Manipur has the maximum number of players at 68, including 26 females with Assam represented by 36 players.
In his brief speech, the chief guest desired recognition of armwrestling by Indian Olympic Association and Sports Authority of India for facilitating development of the sports discipline.
Multiple time national champion M Ambrabati took the oath on behalf of the competitors while o Ibobi Singh received salutes of the march past contingents.
