Imphal, August 05, 2010:
The Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has reaffirmed its stand to continue the ongoing ban on all commercial taxis plying on NH 39 between Imphal and Mao.
This was decided today as no individuals or organisations have clarified or come out clean till today against the vandalism committed on July 26 at North AOC where two Sumos and Winger were destroyed by some bike borne youths.
It also asked the concerned taxis like Tata Sumo, Winger, van, Magic van etc to strictly adhere to it, failing which the NPO will not be responsible for any consequences.
Taking serious note of the recent (August 3) newspaper report about looting and destroying some passenger carrier at Tadubi, the NPO has investigated into the incident but there was no report of looting as reported in the media.
The report of targeting only the Manipur registered vehicles was false and baseless as many of the vandalised vehicles included allother State registered taxis, said a press release issued by the NPO.
The NPO would be constrained to intensify its ban on commercial services if those responsible for the attacks on Mao bound vehicles in June and July 26 fail to explain the attacks within August 10, added the release.
