Troops of Red Shield Division got information about the stocking of explosive materials in Bishenpur district which were likely to be utilised by the insurgent groups to attack security forces in the area, a PIB (DW) press release stated.
Based on the information, a joint column of 39 Assam Rifles and 33 Assam Rifles launched a specific search operation in Wangthalambi village.
Around 6 pm yesterday, the column recovered a large cache of explosives buried two feet underground, wrapped in eight plastic canisters from Bunglushi.
Approximately 120 kgs of gelatin sticks and two detonators were buried in a farm in Bunglushi.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Police subsequently, the press release informed.
Recovery of explosives in such a large scale indicated that insurgent groups were planning to target the security forces in connection with the 64th Independence Day, the PIB (DW) observed.
