The statement said that based on specific information about stocking of explosive materials by UG groups to attack security forces in Bishnupur district, a joint column of 39 Assam Rifles and 33 Assam Rifles launched search operation in Wangthalambi village yesterday.
At around 6 pm, the column recovered a large cache of explosives buried two feet underground wrapped in eight plastic canisters from Bunglushi.
Around 120 kgs of Gelatine sticks and 2 detonators were found buried in a farm in Bunglushi, the statement said, while informing that the recovered items have been handed over to the police subsequently.
The recovery of explosives on such a large scale indicates the plans of the UG groups to target security forces ahead of the 64th Independence Day celebration, the statement added.
