Satish Malik, CEO & Managing Director- India, and Vice President, South Asia Tetra Tech India Ltd visited various villages in Tamenglong district and inspected the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, MGREGS implemented in the district under DoNER.
During the inspection Satish Malik was accompanied by C Arthur W, IAS SDO Tamenglong and his staff and witnessed how the job card holders benefited under the said scheme and had interactions with the card holders.
The job card holders of NREGS conveyed Satish Malik their wish for an increase in wages and number of working days.
At present wages are Rs 81.48 per day in 100 mandays in a year.
The job card holders said they struggled in present situation where potatoes cost Rs 25- 30 and local rice at Rs 35 per kg, superfine rice of Rs 28 per kg in the market.
After visiting a number of villages Satish Malik said that some works were of better quality than state implemented works adding that as huge amount of money was sanctioned for the poor and needy in the remote villages.
Also development should be visible, he added.
A number of questions and suggestions were also passed on to him.
He also interacted with newly introduced NREGS mates, job card holders, village authority chairman/secretary and checked documents of the village authorities.
He also wished that this employment service to the poor and needy may be continued to develop the remote region adding that this scheme and the work was meant to develop the locality.
He also advised the SDO Tamenglong to give extra job cards to disabled peoples in a family.
Satish Malik also assured that he would report to the government of India to give more job cards in a joint family.
