An exciting duel is on the cards when an inform Sainik School, Imphal take on undefeated Sainik School, Korukonda to decide the winner of the All India Sainik Schools Inter-Zonal football championship at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium tomorrow.
The two sides yet to taste defeat in the competition so far will clash for the prestigious title in the last match of league basis championship at 2.30 pm.
In the penultimate day�s matches today, the Imphal institute representing East zone proved too strong for west zone champion Sainik School, Rewa of Madhya Pradesh by slamming in four goals without reply.
The second tie between Sainik Schools of Sujanpur Tira Himachal Pradesh and Korukonda of Andhra Pradesh was won by the latter 2-1.The Korukonda School has six players of Manipur origin.
The host institute had to overcome a stubborn resistance put up by the Rewa School before Radhe Payang breached the opponent fort to break the stalemate in the 50th minute.
The score acted as an elixir prompting the Imphal Sainiks to lay siege at the Rewa goal in search for more.
Nyado Tao increased the lead with a 52nd minute goal as KC lalhriatpuia swelled the advantage to 3-0 in the 71st minute before Ngawang Tsering completed the rout with his eight of the competition in the 84th minute.
The Imphal side had won 15-2 in the championship opener yesterday.
In the Sujanpur Tira versus Korukonda face-off, the former drew first blood when Naveen Negi found the south zone champion�s net in the 10th minute.
After relentless attempt to draw level in the first half failed to yield result, the Korukonda boys piled on the pressure after the change of ends with M Kapung Singh finally bringing relief to team bench restoring parity in the 68th minute.
Even as the match seemed to be heading for a draw, an N Pravinchandra-T Kipgen move fetched full points for Korukonda when the latter finished off the fine move in the 86th minute.
