The agitation launched by Bishnupur Panchayat Parishad demanding empowerment of the local body has been suspended for the time being following a meeting and subsequent assurance from the Chief Minister this evening.
According to press sources, the agitation has been temporarily put off when Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh assured a joint delegate of Bishupur Panchayat Parishad and Manipur State Panchayat Parishad that a Cabinet meeting will be convened on September 2 to the finalise the decentralisation of power pertaining to 10 departments.
The panchayat body has been demanding control of 29 departments, reminded the sources while adding of the Rural Development Minister Allaudin khan and Oinam AC MLA L Radhakishore also representing the Govt side.
The Govt, in consonance with the said Cabinet meeting decision is informed to have affirmed to the panchayat team to complete official procedure for power decentralisation of the 10 departments within two weeks.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Allaudin Khan maintained that reports would be culled from neighbouring states for modality on enhancing honorarium of zilla parishad and panchayat members.
