Youth Club overcome Model Club 35-29 as 27th State Youth Basketball Championship begins

Imphal, May 14 2019: The Late Sapam Ongbi Surjalata Devi Memorial 27th State Youth Basketball Championships, 2019 for Boys and Girls organised by Manipur Basketball Association in collaboration with Model Club, Chingamakhha kicked off today at Model Club Basketball Court.

The opening match (Group B) of the boys' championship participated by 6 teams saw Youth Club, Uripok take off the game slowly and hold off Model Club, Chingamakha 35-29 after trailing 4-5 in the first period.

RK Bishwanath of Youth Club racked up 18 points alone for his team while Y Bipin followed suit to add 11 more points to Youth Club's tally.

Th Harsh and N Sunil also gathered 4 and 2 points respectively to set up the win against the Chingamakha side.

P Gaynary managed 17 points for Model Club but his effort went in vain as the team could collect 29 points at the end.

W Naoba (4), Th Thoiba (3), M Rohit (2), H Lamyanba (2) and Ng Rohit (1) also contributed for the team.

Meanwhile in the Group A opener, ESU overwhelmed BSC by huge 45-20 margin.

ESU dominated the game right from the first quarter as Th Newton shone with 16 points.

W Roman and Th Nishikanta also did well to manage 10 and 9 points respectively for ESU in this one sided game which also saw Th Subharaj (4), H Khelson (3), H Churchill (2) and Khai Chan Sang (1) make their names on the scoresheet.

As for BSC, Th Ronil top-scored with 9 points under his name while H Devraj and Th Rahangao could add only 8 and 3 points respectively.
