Meritorious students including Class XII toppers - 4th position holder (Science) Abhinash Elangbam and 20th position holder (Science) Laishram Reshmi of New Era Higher Secondary School, Thoubal were felicitated today.
Speaking at the event as chief guest, Manipur University Life Science Department Professor N Mohilal encouraged the students and stressed the need for positive change in the education system of the State.
The education system has changed over the years, he said and identified rampant tuition culture as a factor which adds immense stress to the students and deprives them of the leisure they need.
Students nowadays are engaged in tuition or coaching classes from early morning till late night.
With the objective to provide best of the education, parents and guardians are sending their children to tuition centres non-stop from morning till late night.
These children have little to no time for play and other creative activities.
They spend less time with their families.
This culture will eventually add stress to the students and affect their overall performance, he said.
Children should not be driven to get education.
They should be encouraged to get value education.
Parents and teachers should nurture the children in the right direction.
Prevailing rampant tuition culture will not bring growth.
It is not the solution but a problem that will hamper the growth of the children, he said.
According to the Professor, children should be given ample time to enjoy their environment and ease tension which built up as a result of school classes and additional tuition classes.
