Imphal, December 11:
Former champions MPSC averted embarrassment of making an early exit from the 48th edition of the CC Meet football tournament when they downed AMOFA of Moirang 4-3 via the tie breaker at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Even though the police side dominated most section of the match their strike duo of N Deshkumar and I Nillakumar faltered in finding the target sometimes with the rival custodian at their mercy.
On the other hand, capitalising on the disoriented MPSC rear the Moirang side made swift counter attacks but faltered at crucial junctures in the last preliminary tie.
While the MPSC forwards had a poor outing the midfielders also could not make up for their team-mates' folly specially when Kh Sanaton failed to direct his header in the 84th minute with the Moirang 'keeper but of sight.
During the shoot-out Sanaton, N Maimu, Kh Romen and K Premkumar rattled the Amofa net while the police custodian H Noren saved the day for his team affecting a brilliant save off the fifth Moirang attempt taken by M Bidyasagar.
Earlier, in the tie break, even though Amofa scored its first three shots through L Kirankumar, M Robert and K Priyokumar, Kh Subashchandra's attempt sailed over the crosspiece thereby putting enormous pressure on Bidyasagar who had to score to make MPSC take their fifth attempt from the spot.
