Imphal, December 11:
Breaking the silence, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup today, in a sort of a way, officially dubbed the other group, those who stayed behind and did not go to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister, as the breakaway group masquerading as members of the Lup.
Tracing the brief history of formation of the Lup, the Committee in a statement said that as there was the need to form a united body to guide the people's agitation against AFSPA, the Apunba Lup was formed and four co-ordinators appointed to oversee its functioning.
However those who broke away were intent on pursuing their own agenda, it said and added the nude protest that was staged on July 15 in front of Kangla was supposed to be held on July 16 as was decided during a meeting on July 13.However some of them in their haste to garner personal fame, went ahead and staged the protest against the earlier decision arrived at, charged the statement.
The team that went to Delhi did so after it was decided by the Lup, said the statement and charged that the break away group did not make the Delhi trip as infighting amongst themselves erupted over who should represent their interest at Delhi.
It is highly unfortunate that this group does not even have the courtesy to acknowledge a team that went under the leadership of a senior and highly respected citizen like Dr Arambam Lokendra, said the statement.
The charges hurled by the other group that the.
team which went to Delhi had agreed to the proposal of the PM to review AFSPA or replace it with a more humane face is nothing but a lie, said the statement and recalled how the team leader, Dr Arambam Lokendra spelt out the details on arrival to the media here.
The memorandum submitted to the PM was drafted by a team led by Dr Lokendra, it said.
If the other group was so much against the meeting with the PM then why did they despatch some other organisations to meet Manmohan on their behalf, when he visited the State on Nov 21, countered the Lup.
So far the Apunba Lup has been functioning effectively under the leadership of the four co-ordinators, but the other group has appointed one co-ordinator following the stepping down of Jadumani, said the statement and said this is nothing but to confuse the people.
The people should judge who are working for the welfare of the people and who are against the united struggle.
