Overcaming a strong challenge from Andhra Pradesh, Manipur girls wrested sub-junior National Girls Handball title today at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
In the summit clash of the 25th Sub-Junior Girls National Handball Championships, Manipur girls overcame Andhra Pradesh team 17-14 .
O Anjali contributed 8 goals while B Sunitibala scored 4 to wrest the title in favour of the host team.
For Andhra Pradesh, Janaki scored 11 but it went in vain in the eventual result of the match.
B Sunitibala of Manipur bagged the best player award.
Haryana edged past Uttar Pradesh 15-13 to clinch the third place trophy.
Earlier Chattishgarh boys drubbed Haryana 35-25 to clinch the 10th Mini Boys National Handball Championships played at the same venue.
Kartik and Ashvali scored 11 and 10 goals respectively to secure the convincing final victory.
In the third place match, Manipur whipped Uttar Pradesh 31-26 .
The closing ceremony of the national championship was graced by Governor Dr SS Sidhu, Assembly Speaker Dr S Budhichandra and MLAs Ng Bijoy and Th Nandakishwor as presidium members.
