Imphal, August 21 2014:
Reacting to the NSCN/GPRN (NSCN-IM) president Isak Chichi Swu's reported declaration of Uipo (Khoibu) as one of the Naga tribes, the GPRN/NSCN Ammamcht region has denounced the same declaration as an act of disrespect to Maring leaders and public at large.
Leaders of the Maring Uparup Assembly (MUA) and the public have decried the recognition of Uipo (Khoibu) as a separate tribe in Manipur, said a press release issued by GPRN/NSCN.
The two communities of Maring and Uipo (Khoibu) are recognised as one tribe by the Government of Manipur and they share same identity and culture although there is a slight difference in their dialects.
Even though NSCN-IM declared Uipo (Khoibu) a separate tribe after consultation with some Khoibu leaders but no Maring leaders were consulted, it decried.
