Condolence meeting held

A meeting of the Senior Citizens Society Manipur held on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 10.30 am at the residence of Laisom Lalit Singh, VP, SCS expressed sorrow at the sad demise of Ningthoujam Binoy Singh, President of Senior Citizen Society, Manipur on Saturday, August 16 at his residence at Nagamapal RIMS Road Corner, Imphal, according to statement of the Vice President, SCS, Manipur.
Ningthoujam Binoy Singh graduated Honours in History from Cotton College, Gauhati in 1947, studied MA in History in Presidency College, Calcutta University but could not complete the course as he joined the revolutionary movement in Manipur under the Stewardship of Jananeta Hijam Irawat Singh in 1948 .
He was arrested in 1949 along with his comrades, tried and convicted in 1950.After staying in jail for seven years as political prisoner, he was released in 1957 .
His initiatives for the reformation of the lives of the prisoners in Alipur Jail, West Bengal during his political imprisonment in that jail was duly recognised and appreciated by the then Charismatic Chief Minister of West Bengal Dr Bidhan Chaudra Roy.
His wonderful feat of swimming across the mighty Brahmaputra river during his student career in Cotton College, Gauhati, Assam is fondly remembered by the people even today.
The statement said that as the founding President of the Senior Citizens Society Manipur, Ningthoujam Binoy worked tirelessly for more than nine years for the general welfare of the society.
The members of the Society shared its sorrow with the bereaved family.
