Over a thousand army veterans and veer naris thronged Koirengei today where the 57 Mountain Division organised first ever Army Veterans Rally for the entire State of Manipur.
A Media Cell release of the 57 Mountain Division said Army veterans from the remotest part of the State were present at the rally, where GOC of the host Division Maj Gen DS Hooda in his welcome address described the occasion as an important forum where the veterans could interact and highlight points for the mutual and overall benefit for subsequent attention of concerned authorities.
deputy GOC Brig RS Grewal, who is also the Station Commander of Leimakhong, and Chairman of Rajya Sainik Board Lt Col (Retd) HS Singh were also present at the rally, the Cell release informed.
Some highlight of the gathering included eight Veer Naris honoured by the GOC by presentation of distress grants/gifts, discussion session on various points pertaining to the Army veterans and cultural programme by artistes of the Song and drama Division of DIPR.
The participants were later transported back to the various locations from where they had come, it added.
