Former Head of Philosophy Department, Manipur University Prof Salam Shyamkishore has been nominated as general president of the 88th Indian Philosophical Congress scheduled to be held at Madurai from December 27 to 30 .
Prof Shyamkishore was earlier a member of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research Executive Council.
He is currently editorial fellow of the Centre for Studies in Civilization funded by HRD Ministry, Government of India.
The first session of the Indian Philosophical Congress was held in 1925 and its general president was Rabindranath Tagore.
Mahatma Gandhi was general president of the second session and S Radhakrishnan too was once nominated general president of the Indian Philosophical Congress, said a press release.
