ZYF tour to interior areas concludes

The tour conducted by the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) which was set off on Oct 9 concluded on Oct 15 after covering different villages in Lakhipur Assembly Constituency of Cachar district, Assam; Tousem Sub-Division and Nungba Sub-Division of Tamenglong district.
The ZYF Executive meeting was also held at Tousem Headquarters during the tour wherein several resolutions are adopted.
Election of ZYF Tousem Zone was also conducted on Oct 10 at Tousem Sub-Divisional Headquarters in which Wangreilung, Helilang Newme, JK Lungsanglungbe and Idimtuing Newme were unanimously elected as Chairman, Vice-Chairmen and General Secretary of ZYF Tousem Zone, a statement said.
During the tour the ZYF team comprising of about 40 members interacted with village elders, members of VAs, Chairmen and Chiefs, youth leaders, student's leaders of different villages particularly those along the stretch of National Highway 37 .
The ZYF team found Kaiphundai-Tousem road which connects Tousem Sub-Divisional HQ from NH-37 in a deplorable condition.
The State Govt's failure to check the quality of work executed on this road is questionable the ZYF said while strongly condemning the Govt for neglecting the grievances and hardships of the people.
On Oct 12, the ZYF team inspected Tamenglong district boundary at Phaitol village, Kangramga village and Khedagor village.
At Khedagor village, the ZYF team came across trees being cut down in large scale within the jurisdiction of Tamenlong district by some persons belonging to non-tribal community from Jiribam purportedly for rubber and teak plantation thereby the ZYF team strongly protested against the land encroachment and illegal intrusion within the territory of the district.
The people living along the border and boundary of Tamenglong district expressed and conveyed their grievances to ZYF during an interaction.
They said that the State Govt neglects them especially when it comes to land issues.
The people declared to fully support the ZYF to protect and keep intact the Tamenglong land and district boundary at any cost, the statement said.
The ZYF team came to know about many unreported cases relating to hit and run case by goods carrier trucks plying along NH-37 .
Peijanglungliu Gangmei of Rengpang village escaped death but was severely injured with fractured bones and dismember of foot and remains confined at home after she was hit by heavy truck on Dec 23,
2011 .
Lungnuliu alias Lungnumei Phaoamei of Taobam (Irang) village was overran by a truck last year.
Six people died when a truck collided with a Tata Sumo near Khongshang in May last year.
Benjamin Gonmei of Longmai (Noney) died after being hit by a speeding truck at Longmai bazaar in August this year.
Domestic animals such as cattle, dogs, goats, pigs, fouls being overran by the trucks are a regular phenomenon which went unreported.
The people expressed strong dissatisfaction and deep concerned over frequent cases of accident.
The ZYF team came across undisciplined personnel of Territorial Army posted at Kaimai village army post, it added while saying that it would apprise the matter to the Govt of India for taking up befitting action against the army personnel namely Lupheng Paominthang R/No 1300433 and Semboi Vaiphei R/No 13004712 as per laws for threatening the youth leaders by misusing the duty and responsibility in contradictory to army purpose to protect the citizens.
The ZYF would take up different forms of strong democratic agitation very soon, it stated.
