Biometric enrolment totters

Even as Aadhar cards have been pre-pared for 5,58,180 people of Manipur, biometric enrolment process has not been initiated in 811 villages as against 2505 total number of villages.
Chief Secretary PC Lawm-kunga today convened a mee- ting and reviewed progress of the ongoing biometric enrolment work.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Census Director, officials of Home Department, MANITRON and In Media.
Out of the total 2505 villages of Manipur, biometric enrolment process has not been initiated in 811 villages till date, informed a source.
As against the total population of 28,24,955, biometric data for 9,68,774 people have been uploaded which implies that the biometric enrolment work has been completed by 41 per cent.
Aadhar cards for 5,58,170 people have been prepared and some people already received their cards.
However, 15,22,295 people have not been enrolled as yet although MANITRON and In Media have been undertaking the enrolment pro- cess using 111 operators.
The review meeting noted that the biometric enrolment process has slowed down in Imphal West and Imphal East while it is improving a little bit in Chandel, Tamenglong and Churachandpur.
MANITRON has completed the biometric enrolment work by 58 per cent in Imphal West, 59.3 pc in Imphal East, 37.22 pc in Chandel, 22.22 pc in Tamenglong and 35.68 in Churachandpur.
On the other hand, In Media has so far covered 67 per cent of the total population of Thoubal district, 50.8 per cent in Bishnupur, 6.01 in Senapati and 15.77 in Ukhrul.
Notably, the State Government earlier set a target for completion of the biometric enrolment work on June 30 this year.
