Veteran lawyer no more

Veteran lawyer, Naorem Ke-rani Singh, who earned the distinction of being the first lawyer of the State, passed away yesterday around 11.15 am at his Singjamei Chinga-makhong residence.
Kerani was diagnosed with kidney ailment and his health deteriorated during the last two years.
He was 80 and survived by wife, two sons, three daughters and grandchildren.
A third son predeceased him in 2007.Kerani celebrated fifty years of legal practice in 2010.He first enrolled as Pleader in the AMBA in 1960 after his Law graduation from Allahabad University and had served in various Govt departments as legal advisor and counsel.
He was also the Secretary of AMBA and President of HCBA.
An avid reader and keen learner, Kerani was also associated with many philanthropic and social organisa- tions.
He was the incumbent President of All Manipur Se-nior Citizens' Welfare Association.
