Imphal, April 06 2013 :
Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) A Nimai Sharma has informed that henceforth private security guards would be deployed to arrest those setting up illegal shops along the corridors of Khwairamband market and fine would be levied against those who dump garbage around under the provisions of Cleanliness and Sanitation bylaw.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Nimai said that despite painstakingly effort of sweeping and collecting garbage from the market areas by IMC employees, nothing has improved.
So, IMC has decided to deploy private security personnel for arresting those individuals who are illegally setting up shops along the corridors of Khwairamband market and check dumping of garbage at improper places.
Fine would also be levied against the defaulters.
Nimai wondered what difficulties do the women vendors and the shop owners in Khwairambandh have from dumping the trash materials at the designated spots provided.
He pointed out that cleanliness of the market is in the hands of those who are doing business there and people coming to buy goods.
Apart from that, necessary assistances are being provided under Jawarharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission to the poor people residing in urban areas.
In a major step to keep the city neat and clean, IMC had constructed around 1250 houses with proper drainage systems and provided solar lamps in urban areas under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Improvements of embankments are carrying out along Nambul and Naga rivers.
IMC is doing whatever it can at its best to make Imphal a zero garbage city, Nimai added.
