Imphal, April 06 2013 :
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh today celebrated its 33rd foundation day at its Nityaipat Chuthek party office.
Addressing the gathering in the capacity of chief guest, BJP Manipur Pradesh core committee co-chairman Prof Gangmumei Kamei underscored the need to strengthen BJP both at the Centre as well as in the State starting from the grassroots level if the party should come to power.
BJP is a political party which believes in nationalism.
It was during the Prime Ministership of Atal Behari Vajpayee that the DoNER Ministry was set up with a long term vision for development of the North East region, the former Minister highlighted.
He also initiated necessary steps for opening railway line to Manipur through Jiribam, claimed Prof Gangmumei.
Vajpayee stated that the Naga integration could not be accepted until and unless there was a consensus among the neighbouring States.
Vajpayee was one of the national leaders who did not wish to disturb the territorial integrity of Manipur, noted Gangmumei.
Apart from always scheming to capture power, Congress party which is currently in power has been indulging in unrestrained corruption, he alleged.
On the other hand, BJP puts faith in value based politics and is abiding by the same principle.
It is also the only alternative to Congress party, Prof Gangmumei asserted.
Stating that there is no party which can fight Congress party other than BJP, Prof Gangmumei claimed that the organisational set-up of BJP is really democratic though some people alleged that its structure is dictatorial.
Core committee member Prof S Tiken stated that BJP committed itself to five principles when the party was formed.
The five principles were nationalism and national integrity, democracy, positive secularism, Ghandian socialism and values based politics.
Among other party leaders, former president Sh Shantikumar, Haobam Bhuban, M Bhorot, vice president N Ibohal and media in-charge Robin Blackie also spoke at the foundation day function.
